Study on Agricultural Policies in Developing Countries

According to the United Nations, the current world population of 7.4 billion will reach 9.6 billion by 2050. The population growth rate is higher in the developing countries. To keep pace with and to avoid population growth, improving food productivity is key.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan awarded IC Net to conduct field research on food production systems in developing countries. This project entitled “Study on Agricultural Policies in Developing Countries” aims to find gaps between agricultural policy and practice. IC Net conducted needs assessments and interviews with local farmers and agricultural cooperative associations in 10 countries which include Bolivia, Cuba, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Laos, Madagascar, Mozambique, Myanmar, Paraguay, and Vietnam. The conclusions from the needs assessments will help these countries map out effective agricultural policies.
