Since July 2010, IC Net has been implementing the Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Services in Eastern Visayas project, and this year is the fourth and last year of implementation. Unfortunately, on November 9th, 2013, Typhoon Haian destroyed the already fragile infrastructure of this island; what ensued was even worse. Large scale looting was caused due to the lack of water, food, medicine, and shelter.
IC Net’s Toshiki Mizuno was there to assess the damage caused to the project office in January. “All I saw was rubbage. It was depressing to see only devastation. On the other hand, IC Net has the opportunity to attend a meeting with the WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA, Save the children, such as the Red Cross focused on coordinating humanitarian activities.
Mr. Mizuno add “IC Net’s donation in November helped local staff, such as the driver, to purchase kettles and other goods.” The driver, as a token of appreciation, invited Mr. Mizuno for dinner at their house. “
“I heard about their situation and I realized our help meant a lot to them. I am very thankful for everyone’s help.”
