IC Net Limited was recently awarded The Project for the Capacity Development of Local Governments in Guatemala by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This project is being carried out from August 2015 to September 2016. This one year project aims at poverty reduction through targeted participatory development planning, implementation and monitoring activities.
The local governments of Guatemala have been working on poverty reduction since the civil war ended and peace agreements were signed in 1996. JICA conducted a national training program called “the planning capacity of public policy” for leaders of the young mayor of the poverty-stricken areas and local government officials, local NGOs and community based organizations from 2005 until 2007 and supported the capacity strengthening of decision-making processes for community development and its implementation. JICA also sent individual experts to strengthen the capacity of three prefectures and eight cities in the western part of the country, by delivering provincial civil servant training, and provided support for the implementation of each city’s participatory development planning, implementation and monitoring activities from 2010 through 2012.
Professional staff on this project cooperate with chief advisor / governance professionals responsible for overall project coordination and prefecture activities business adjustment / local government expert, and conduct following activities intended to promote city development planning through improved quality of social development work on city and public participation and implementation based on the achievements of the above.
